Captain Jack – 9 months

Bang, crash and wallop – Jack is on the move and nothing in his sight stands a chance!

Every month, I do an update on Jack’s progress and this month in comparison has been exciting.  Thankfully, in month 8, Jack decided that he didn’t mind a little tummy time.  With a lot of persistence this month (and a few face-plants), Jack is now crawling and is getting quicker by the minute.  I’m on my feet all day moving things out of his path.  He has already had the surround sound system down and the DVD unit has been emptied a few times.  You can see his first crawling moments in action on Instagram.

Its amazing to watch him in all his glory.  He looks back at me now as if to say, look at what I can do mummy.  Thankfully, now that he is crawling he seems to be a lot less frustrated and his tantrums seem not so bad this past week.

He has also started to stand, which just looks surreal.  He will stand at his music table or up against the sofa for about 30 seconds.  He climbs all over the place too and I have to watch him like a hawk!

I’ve been ‘clapping’ him in celebration and quite quickly he has picked this up and now claps too.  Even if I don’t do the action but say ‘clap-clap-clap’ he will do it with the biggest of cheeky grins.

He has been perfecting his ‘mum-mum’ and ‘dad-dad’ nicely and has found screech levels I never knew possible.  Check out the video of our little musician in the making.

He is extremely cuddly at the moment and loves to snuggle up with us so I’m making the most of it whilst I have the chance and before it is deemed uncool.

Unfortunately, a couple of months back he had a fever and was off his food and I was told by the Doctor to just give him milk until he was well.  Since then he hasn’t really got back into his food and I’ve had to compensate with extra milk.  This morning, we had his 9-month review with the Health Visitor and had him weighed to make sure he is still gaining despite the feeding troubles.  He now weighs a healthy 23lbs 2oz and is still tracking at 91%.  The Health Visitor was very good and supplied us with lots of weaning tips.

He has been a bit under the weather this past week and a couple of nights ago we noticed that he has four teeth coming through at the top.  They look like they are just about to break through so no wonder he has been tearful.  The powders and Nurofen seem to be helping now though.  Hopefully, they’ll come through real quick and our happy boy will be full of smiles again.

  1. I absolutely loved this stage! Watching their little bodies learn to get them around and the wonder on their little faces. It’s just brilliant. I hate it when they get ill and don’t want to eat. Hope he’s feeling all better now. Thanks for linking up with #TwinklyTuesday
