An outdoor adventure with my boys (and camera)

As part of our recent promise to get out of the house more often, we decided to venture out on Saturday to Thatcham Lakes.

With Jack secured to Trevor by carrier, we headed off to feed the ducks.  Unlike many who think that feeding them bread is sensible (which it is NOT) we took along some birdseed which they went crazy for.  Jack loved the ducks, his excitable legs and pop-out eyes suggested so.  Although, I’m not sure he was overly fond of the huge one which got a bit too close, even I didn’t liked him.

We took to the Seasonal Trail around the lake’s perimeter which took us about an hour so that Jack could see the ducks and take in the scenery.  Are 23-week olds too young to take in the sights, sounds and smells?  He seemed to be enjoying himself, regardless.

As a City girl, I get a bit trigger happy when it comes to the great outdoors and all things green.  Trevor and Jack would walk on ahead whilst I was busy trying to perfect my shots in Auto mode before running along to catch-up.  I somehow managed to take over 400 shots in the space of an hour but have been kind enough to only post 8 of them.

It was really nice to get out after what had been a very tough week for me.  Trevor took my hand whilst we walked the trail and we talked for what seemed like the first time in ages.  Usually, we are so busy at home with Jack and household chores that we rarely get to sit down and chat these days.  I think we’ll make this a regular thing, it did us all good.

  1. This looks like a fun day out! I love the baby carrier on your hubby. Sometimes we take tons of pictures and then we have to go through them all, that’s the hard part! lol

  2. Such lovely photos. Jack looks like he’s had such a fun time. 🙂
I understand what you mean about sometimes it feels like forever since you’ve talked or held hands. Jamie and I go on 1 date a month. If you can do something like that it’s so worth it. Just setting aside that one day or one evening that you’re guaranteed couple time is so precious.
This looks like such a lovely walk. Thank you so much for linking up to #whatevertheweather xx

  3. Ha ha, you’re even more snap happy than me! I love taking photos and posting them on my blog. I don’t enjoy editing them quite so much! I’ve never thought of giving ducks birdseed, will have to try that. #Whatevertheweather

    1. Hi Jenny, thanks for visiting our post. Jack was certainly happy, didn’t stop ‘chatting’ away 🙂 I’m glad you know what the local wildlife is, I have no idea! The joys of being brought up in the City I suppose, I must try harder 🙂 xx #WhateverTheWeather

      1. Hee hee, I’m an ecologist so I’m meant to know a little about the wildlife. Looks like the ducks you’re feeding are also Canada geese, I imagine that they would get scary when up a bit too close! 🙂 x
